The RSF Local Legends 004 - Music Producers evening with Martin Terefe (Producer Kensaltown Studios – KT Tunstall, Shawn Mendes, Jason Mraz, Cat Stevens) and Catherine J. Marks (Producer – The Killers, Kanye West, PJ Harvey, MIA, Wolf Alice)

Want to spend an evening with award winning music producers?

The Rhythm Studio Foundation's Local Legends series showcases the incredibly talented, successful and innovative men and women of the music industry who live and work in the local neighbourhood of North West and West London. They are performers, producers, DJs, label bosses, songwriter, technology innovators and promoters. The fourth event in the series will focus on two leading producers Martin Terefe and Catherine J. Marks.

Want to visit renowned local music studio Kensaltown?

An intimate setting at Kensaltown’s recording studio, the format is informal where guests are invited to share stories of how it all began for them, the ups and downs of their journey to the top and what keeps them there.

Hosted by Jack Horner, RSF Trustee and founder of FRUKT, this will be honest and revealing and you’ll get a chance to ask questions. There will also be live performances and a chance to mingle later after the Q&A session is over.

Catherine J Marks – Producer, Mixer, Engineer

Catherine is a Producer, Engineer and Mixer, winner of breakthrough producer of the year at the 2016 MPG Awards and Grammy nominated for Wolf Alice “Moaning Lisa Smile”. Having worked closely with legendary producers Alan Moulder and Flood in the past, she now has over 10 years of experience working in studios all over the world. Her production, mixing and engineering credits include Wolf Alice, Sunset Sons, Foals, Alex Winston,  PJ Harvey, Champs, Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes, Howling Bells, Kanye West, Ian Brown, MIA, Placebo, Ride, Killers and Mr Hudson.

Collaborating with new bands and established artists alike, Catherine is always endeavouring to get the best out of those she works with. Completely in tune with the mechanics of the studio environment, Catherine is calm, devoted and passionate about each project she works on making the artists feel relaxed and positive about creating and experimenting in the studio.

Catherine recently mixed tracks 3, 9 and 10 on the St. Vincent album - MASSEDUCTION released on 13th October.

Martin Terefe – Producer, Songwriter, Musician

Martin’s reputation has grown out of word-of-the-mouth recommendations from the artists he’s worked with in his sprawling West London studio, Kensaltown. His client list now includes Jason Mraz, Train, Cat Stevens (Yusuf), Jamie Cullum, KT Tunstall, James Morrison and Shawn Mendez.

As for a “signature sound,” he explains: “I’m very vocal-centric. I love when you can hear the words, when you can hear the story, and I think that has become a sound in itself. I use a lot of ‘traditional methods,’ so to speak. Also, my studio is kind of a museum of vintage equipment. But it’s not like I’m trying to make retro records. As long as the song is great and the vocal is great, I have a starting point to work from whether it’s rock, acoustic, electronic or rhythmic music.”
